On March 8th of every year, International Women’s Day events across the world are launched to celebrate the social, political and economic achievement of women. As a landmark for change, International Women’s Day is also focussed on promoting awareness of the disparities between genders in these areas.
The Australian Science and Mathematics School is in support of this movement and, as a result, is hosting a screening of ‘Miss Representation’- a remarkable insight into how mainstream media and culture contribute to the lack of women in powerful positions across America. Unravelling the patchwork of what women face on a daily basis, ‘Miss Representation’ shows how the disparaging portrayal of females in the media contributes to the lack of self-esteem and achievements through only the cultural ties that hold Hollywood together.
The ASMS invites all of our wonderful school community to this FREE event at Matthew Flinders Theatre, located on the Flinders University Main Campus. Arrive at 5:45pm for a special guest talk on the key issue of equality starting at 6pm, followed by the screening of ‘Miss Representation’ at 6:30 – 8.00pm.
