MEG is a program aimed at primary students who are motivated and interested in maths, their teachers and their parents. It ran for the first time in 2016 and again in 2017! Please note that the activities will have some overlap with 2017 so it wouldn’t be appropriate for the same children to undertake the program.

MEG aims to provide extension for students in math while supporting their teachers to gain confidence and increase their pedagogical toolkit when delivering maths tasks that cater for intellectual stretch and supporting their parents in fostering their child’s motivation and interest.

The elements are:

A session on Thursday 28 June from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Australian Science and Maths School for students, their parents and their teachers. This will include a learning experience that will be accessible to all participants who have a basic understanding of area and perimeter, and will allow for significant stretch in the understanding of mathematics.

A session on Thursday 16 August from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Australian Science and Maths School for students and their teachers. Parents are invited to attend as well if interested. This will include a learning experience that will be accessible to all participants who have a basic understanding of probability, and will again allow for significant stretch in the understanding of mathematics.

Celebration at the Australian Science and Maths School’s International Science Fair on Tuesday 4 September from 11.30 am – 100 pm where participating students will share a poster of a mathematical inquiry they have undertaken. This will be done as part of the Poster Presentation by students from around the world and will provide the primary students with stimulus to pursue their interest in maths.

There is no cost to participate. Parking cost of around $5 per car will apply.

Teachers, students and parents will receive packs of useful resources at each session.
